During the winter time in the Pacific Northwest, powerful groundswells light up the coastline, creating optimal conditions for surfing. On good days, the winter winds blow from east to west, forming perfectly tapered lines of incoming swell. As it turns out, the best chance to catch this magic window is often first thing in the morning. We call this Dawn Patrol.
In surfing, Dawn Patrol means paddling out before the sun breaches over the horizon. Scientifically, there’s a number of reasons why the waves tend to be better early in the morning, but for surfers this means one thing: perfect, uncrowded waves. Given the novelty of this idea, we thought it was only fitting that we name our first hat after the expression. Enter the Dawn Patrol Cap.
